Što se podučavanja dece tiče, više nije pitanje «da li je neko dete inteligentno/pametno», već «na koji način je neko dete inteligentno/pametno». Za vaspitače i učitelje ovo predstavlja jednu vrstu izazova i olakšanja u isto vreme – jasno nam je da svako dete može da nauči, samo je pitanje na koji način mu možemo pomoći da nauči.
Gardner je u svojoj teoriji nabrojao 7 vrsta inteligencije. Gardner je prvobitno formulisao listu od sedam inteligencija.To su: logičko-matematička, lingvistička, muzička, kinestetička, prostorno-vizuelna, intrapersonalna i interpersonalna. Prve dve su one koje se obično vrednuju u školi, sledeće tri su obično povezane sa umetnošću, a poslednje dve Gardner je nazvao ličnom inteligencijom. Drugi, koji su nastavili sa istraživanjem vrsta inteligencija, dodaju emocionalnu, prirodnjačku, seksualnu i duhovnu inteligenciju.
